As the number of self-pay patients continues to grow, the challenges practices face when collecting payment also increase. Many accounts covered by Medicaid are never properly billed or classified, which can result in lost reimbursement opportunities. Unidentified Medicaid and Medicare patients contribute significantly to patient bad debt, making it critical that physician groups be able to quickly and easily identify covered patients. In fact, many self-pay patients unknowingly have Medicaid or Medicare coverage, which means providers are eligible to receive reimbursement.
MPV Eligibility enables physician groups to electronically match self-pay patients against Medicaid and Medicare databases to determine eligibility. Once identified, patient accounts eligible for benefits can be re-classified and a clean claim can be submitted, providing additional reimbursement opportunities while reducing collection costs and patient bad debt. Self-pay verification also enables practices to:
- Separate billable Medicaid patients from the self-pay group
- Optimize cash flow
- Decrease A/R days
- Streamline staff workflow
- Enhance data integrity
