University of California, Irvine Partners with MPV for More Accurate Reimbursement
UCI is the second practice associated with the University of California Healthcare System to Implement MPV Phynance™

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – May 24, 2005 – Medical Present Value, Inc. (MPV), the leading provider of contract modeling services and claims auditing software to maximize reimbursement for medical groups, today announced that UCI University Physicians & Surgeons has signed a multi-year agreement to deploy MPV Phynance for payor contract management and payment verification.

UCI Physicians Billing Group will use MPV Phynance to fully define the complex terms of 40 payor contracts and to evaluate overall payor contract compliance for 300 of the group's 1,200 physicians. By monitoring the accuracy of its reimbursement, UCI University Physicians & Surgeons will be able to appeal and recover contractual underpayments and increase revenues.

"After seeing the tremendous level of success that University of California, San Diego Medical Group experienced through its use of MPV Phynance, we were confident it was the right choice for our group," said Lewis Atlas, vice president, UCI Physicians Billing Group. "Automating this time-intensive process will result in numerous benefits, from improving profitability to strengthening our negotiating position with payors."

MPV employs a highly trained contract analysis team to model payor contracts into the MPV Phynance application, which values and verifies healthcare claims, line item by line item, according to the terms of each individual payor contract. The contract team also maintains a database of client-specific contract terms, fee schedules and payment policies and continually updates Medicare, state and other payment rules to ensure claim pricing is accurate.

"Without an effective system in place to monitor and appeal underpayments, we never knew exactly how much money we were leaving on the table," said Dr. Peter Breen, chairman of the UCI Department of Anesthesiology. "Now, with MPV Phynance, we expect to know with certainty how much we should be paid for all of the services we provide."

UCI is also partnering with MPV to evaluate the terms of proposed payor contracts for future contract negotiations. Having the group's contract information fully defined in MPV Phynance will allow UCI to have a clear understanding of how each claim should be paid, compare contract performance and prioritize contract re-negotiations. It will also enable the group to generate comprehensive undercharge reports and optimize its chargemaster.

"We are delighted to add UCI to our growing list of clients and look forward to helping them optimize reimbursement," said Jamo Rubin, M.D., president of MPV. "With the invaluable tools and information that our technology provides, UCI will be able to recover more revenue for its existing payor contracts as well negotiate more favorable contracts in the future."
