University of Alabama Health Services Foundation Management Service Organization Partners with MPV to Track Payment Variances and Aggregate Appeals
MPV will help group to better identify contractual underpayments
AUSTIN, Texas. – December 4, 2007 –
The University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF), a multi-specialty group with more than 800 physicians located in Birmingham, Ala., will use Medical Present Value, Inc.'s (MPV) financial tools and expert services to manage payor contracts and audit reimbursement. Through its relationship with MPV, the group will be able to better detect payment errors, monitor contract performance and optimize revenue.
"We know from the results of appeals made by our current Reimbursement Review Team that we are not always paid appropriately by our contracted payers," said Dianne Lazarus, executive director of the UAHSF Management Service Organization. "By partnering with MPV, we will be able to better identify underpaid and underallowed claims and collect what we are owed for services provided."
Under the terms of the agreement, the group will use MPV's combination of contract modeling and definition services and Web-based technology to define individual contracts terms, including carve-outs, bundling edits and modifiers. MPV analysts will then model contract terms line-by-line into MPV's Phynance™ application, creating a database of client-specific contract terms, fee schedules and payment policies to ensure claim pricing is accurate. MPV will also help the group:
- Automate payor contract management;
- Identify potential registration and posting errors;
- Determine accurate reimbursement for medical claims;
- Estimate a patient's portion of medical costs prior to service; and
- Evaluate how new, proposed contract terms will affect payment.
"MPV's services and technology will enable us to optimize our revenue and improve cash flow," added Lazarus.
"Fully understanding payor contracts and successfully monitoring their performance is of the utmost importance in today's complex reimbursement environment," said Tom Stampiglia, CEO of MPV. "MPV will help the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation improve payor contract management and provide them with the resources needed to improve overall contract performance."
