Four Groups Sign Contracts for MPV Eligibility to Improve Patient Collections, Reduce Denials
Use of technology to enable physician practices to verify eligibility and benefits information in real time

AUSTIN, Texas. – April 28, 2009 – Medical Present Value, Inc. (MPV) today announced that four medical groups representing more than 1,700 providers have selected MPV Eligibility to automate patient insurance and benefits verification processes.

The multi-specialty physician practices include:

  • Ohio State University Physicians, Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based group with  900 providers;
  • UNMC Physicians, based in Omaha, Neb., representing 539 physicians;
  • Pediatric Management Group, Inc., a 350-provider practice located in Los Angeles, Calif.; and
  • St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare, a large provider practice in Anaheim, Calif.

“Prior to partnering with MPV, we attempted to automate the eligibility and insurance verification process with limited success,” said Richard Sobieray, CFO of Ohio State University Physicians. “With MPV Eligibility, we will be able to receive real-time eligibility responses in an average of six seconds, identify Medicaid-eligible, self-pay patients and integrate all eligibility and insurance-related responses and information directly into our practice management system.”

With MPV Eligibility, practices can verify insurance and benefits information in either real time or batch at any point in the billing cycle, reducing the need to call payers for data or solicit information from individual payer Web sites. Electronically gathering patient co-payment, deductible and other relevant details provides medical groups with the correct eligibility and benefits information for reduced denials, increased collections and streamlined workflow.

“We are always looking for ways to operate more efficiently and cost-effectively, especially in today’s challenging economic times. By selecting MPV Eligibility we will be able to meet both of these objectives,” said Troy Wilhelm, CFO of UNMC Physicians. “MPV Eligibility will lead to further efficiencies by reducing the time staff spends on manual data entry and duplicative tasks.”

MPV Eligibility may also be used to verify patient addresses, enabling practices to send statements to the correct billing address the first time and reduce printing, paper and postage costs. The system can also check to see if self-pay patients have Medicaid coverage so that medical groups properly bill accounts that are covered by Medicaid for maximum reimbursement.
